Abstract

1368214 Valves W T HEYER and D F SOUKUP 27 June 1972 30084/72 Heading F2V A push-button flushing valve of the type which passes a pre-determined volume of liquid comprises a housing 11 with inlet 60 and outlet 13 and a seat 48 adapted to be contacted by a seal 48a carried by a piston 37 which reciprocates in a cylinder 36. The piston is provided with a probe 44 which extends through the seat to communicate the region upstream of the seat with the cylinder, and a pilot valve 19 controlling the venting of the cylinder to move the piston toward and away from the seat. A spring- biased restrictor element 47 is slidably fitted to the probe to provide a variable area orifice. The pilot valve is provided with a ball-detent mechanism to hold the valve in the open position until an adjustable plug 53 compresses the pin 29 and allows the valve to close. Reflector surfaces are provided on the exterior of and adjacent to the piston to lower the forces necessary to close the valve. The restrictor element 47 acts to provide a suitable actuating differential pressure when the valve is open. The housing is in two parts, which are rotatable about the axis 26 relative to each other.
