Abstract

1367716 Hauling SHIP CO Ltd 20 Jan 1972 [20 Jan 1971] 2780/72 Headings B8B and B8A [Also in Division F2] A machine for hauling or reversing a rope 1, comprises a drum 3 having a peripheral groove 2 along which the rope 1 extends, and clamping members 8 pivotally mounted on each side of the groove 2 and spaced around the periphery of the drum, each member 8 having three pawls circumferentially spaced about its pivot such that the rope sitting in the groove 2 depresses one of the pawls causing rotation of the member 8 whereby the next pawl presses down on to the rope to clamp it in the groove 2. In the embodiment of Figs. 4 to 7 (not shown), the clamping members which are spring biased open in pairs, incorporate rollers engageable with a cam at each side of the drum, the cams being adjustable to control the pressure of rope clamping and the position of occurrence. In the embodiments of Figs. 8 to 11 (not shown), clamping members of either the pawl type or the cam operated type are mounted on links of an endless chain to facilitate hauling.
