Abstract

1367431 Turning articles in transit on conveyers SIEMENS AG 22 March 1973 [22 March 1972] 14012/73 Heading B8A [Also in Divisions G1 and G4] Apparatus for use with specimen tubes which are intended to contain samples for analysis and have coded data on their sides to identify the samples comprises a conveyer chain formed of pivotally-connected links each adapted to receive in it and support one of the specimen tubes and allow it to be turned about its axis while still in the link, a reading station for reading the coded data, means for advancing the conveyer chain stepwise so that the specimen tubes dwell in turn at the reading station, means for turning each specimen tube about its axis when it is still in its link and is at the reading station and reading means at the reading station for reading the coded data from each specimen tube whilst it is being turned. As shown tubes 5, 6, 7 each in a link are presented sequentially at a reading station 10. A pusher member 12 pushes each tube in turn against a rotating device 14 so that the tube is rotated and the indicia thereon are sensed by comb 11. Movement of the pusher member and of the comb is controlled by cam followers 26, 22 riding on cam 20 the drive motor 19 of which is synchronized with the drive 24 of the chain. The indicia may be holes punched in a part of the specimen tube or in tape or sheet material applied to the tube, or magnetic recordings on tapes or sheets applied to the tubes.
