Abstract

1367176 Forming filled packages TETRA PAK CARTA SAS 23 Dec 1971 [7 Jan 1971] 59973/71 Heading B8C [Also in Division B5] A device for sealing a filled plastics tube, e.g. of polyvinyl chloride, comprises two jaws 15, 17 each formed with a gripping plate 30 of electrically insulating material supporting a welding electrode 16, the jaws having substantially flat gripping surfaces on opposite sides of the electrodes 16 so that when the electrodes and adjacent gripping surfaces come together with the filled tube between them the contents of the tube can be displaced from the sealing zones and the areas nearby. The sealing jaws have stainless steel base plates and each electrode 16 has a conduit 27 therethrough for the circulation of a cooling medium. Preferably, the working faces of the electrodes 16 project beyond the faces of the plates 30. The sealing device forms part of a packaging device described in Specifications 1,367,175 and 1,367,177, Fig. 1 (not shown).
