Abstract

1366950 Microbiological testing DIAGNOSTIC RESEARCH Inc 23 Dec 1971 60026/71 Heading C6F A system for differentiating enteric bacilli comprises three separate media, such that a surface of a second medium is completely covered by a surface of a first medium, the third medium being independent of the other two, and the first medium comprises peptone, yeast extract, phenylalanine, L-tryptophan, dextrose, lactose, sodium chloride, ferric ammonium citrate, sodium thiosulphate, agar, bromcresol purple and water, the second medium comprises peptone, yeast extract, lysine, dextrose, agar, bromcresol purple and water, and the third medium comprises peptone, yeast extract, L-ornithine, L-tryptophan, dextrose, agar, bromcresol purple and water. The second medium is semisolid whereby to detect the mobility of the bacteria under test. The third medium may also be made in a double pour with the ornithine-deficient medium on top and the tryptophan-deficient medium on the bottom. The media may be contained in a partitioned transparent bottle.
