1366688 Welding by fusion NIPPON STEEL CORP and NIPPON STEEL WELDING PRODUCTS ENG CO Ltd 12 Aug 1971 [12 Aug 1970 14 Aug 1970 29 Sept 1970 10 Dec 1970] 37863/71 Heading B3R [Also in Division C7] In flux-submerged arc welding of steel, a flux cored consumable electrode wire has a core containing 0À04-1À00% Ti and 0À002-0À05% B, the percentages being of total electrode weight, and a pre-applied arc-submerging flux has a basicity, viz. greater than 0À90. B may be in the form of pellets, powder or an alloy. The wire flux core may also include 4-25% of the total electrode weight of metal fluoride (e.g. one or more of CaF 2 , NaF, KF, LiF, MgF 2 , MnF 2 or complex fluorides of Na, K, Li, Mg, Ca and Ti, Zr, Al, B (e.g. K 2 ZrF 6 , Na 2 ZrF 6 , K 2 TiF 6 , Na 2 TiF 6 ) or metals such as Ca, Mg, Ba or Ca, Mg alloys (e.g. Ca-Fe, Ca-Si, Ca-Al Mg-Al). The flux core may also include one or more of a slag-forming agent, an arc stabilizer (of an oxide or carbonate), a deoxidizer (e.g. Fe-Si, Fe-Mn) or denitrogenizer), alloying elements (e.g. Al, V and Nb) and Fe powder. Mo and Ni may be added to the weld deposit.
