Abstract

1366627 Universal couplings; linkwork A S LAMBURN 10 Aug 1971 [12 May 1970 (2)] 22816/70 and 22817/70 Headings F2U and F2K A universal coupling comprises two shaft mountable members 19, 20 connected by a centring device (e.g. a ball 14 in a socket 10), each have radially outwardly extending arms 15, 25 whose outer ends 16, 26 are connected by links 28a, 28c, 29b, 29d, 35 arranged to be in tension when transmitting torque in one direction. The links 28a ... 28d and 29a ... 29d may be of stranded wire, and be lubricated and enclosed in a sheath. Various methods of mounting these links in the ends 16, 26 are described, Figs. 4 to 7 (not shown). The member 20 may be clamped against a combined thrust and journal bearing (not shown) by a bolt 33, 38 as in Fig. 10.
