Abstract
1366537 Hydrogenation catalyst ESSO RESEARCH & ENG CO 11 Oct 1971 47239/71 Heading B1E [Also in Divisions C2 and C5] A hydrogenation catalyst comprises nickel supported on silica having a nickel surface area greater than 70 m<SP>2</SP>/g and a sodium content less than 0.2 wt. % based on the total weight of catalyst. The catalyst may have a total surface area of greater than 225 m<SP>2</SP>/g. The catalyst may additionally comprise a porous silica, e.g. kieselguhr, the nickel content of such a composition being 25 wt. % to 50 wt. %. The catalyst may be formed by slurrying porous silicate particles in an aqueous solution containing nickel ions and silicate ions followed by precipitation, calcination and reduction steps. Specifications Nos. 1,263,132 and 1,364,658 are referred to.
