1366504 Production of carbonyl compounds IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 21 June 1972 [25 June 1971] 29909/71 Heading C2C Esters and/or lactones are prepared by reacting an alkane, a cycloalkane or an aralkane containing at least one aliphatic or group with a carboxylic acid or a functional derivative thereof in the presence of pentavalent vanadium ions. The following compounds are prepared in the examples: cyclohexyl acetate, a mixture of sec-n-octylacetate, γ-lactone of γ- phenyl-γ-hydroxypentanoic acid, γ-neopentyl- γ-methyl-γ-butyrolactone.
