1366257 Apparatus for forming packed refuse blocks K TEZUKA 21 Nov 1972 53802/72 Heading B8C An apparatus for forming compacted and packed blocks from loose refuse comprises, in combination, compressing means including at least one chamber 7 for receiving loose, or pre-compressed, refuse and having an outlet 13 for discharging a block compacted from the refuse, a compression container 15 having one side pivotally secured in the vicinity of said outlet of the compression chamber and adapted to receive the compacted block, means 24, 25 for imparting a quarter of a turn of pivotal movement to said container so as to establish substantially rectilinear communication with said compressing means in one of the operational positions, locking means 30, 34 for optionally interconnecting said outlet with an inlet of said container in said one operational position, and means 40-46 for packing a sheet, or like material, about the compacted block. As shown, refuse is dumped into an open-topped, compression chamber 1 where a ram-operated pressure plate 2 compacts the refuse against an end plate 6 which is withdrawable upwardly by a ram 10 for transfer of compacted refuse to the compression chamber 7 in which a second, ramoperated, pressure plate 12 compacts further the transferred refuse as the latter is urged into the compression container 15 which is clamped in line therewith and which is internally lined with a layer of packaging material such as wire netting, or polyethylene. The container 15 is pivoted, at 22, to the chamber 7 and is rotatable by the ram 24, 25 through substantially a quarter of a turn from the filling position where it is secured by ram-operated clamps 30, 34 into a horizontal position over the outlet 13 of the chamber 7 to a substantially upright position as shown in dotted lines, Fig. 2. Bell-crank levers 60, Fig. 5, acting through slots 61 in the side wall of the container 15, are swingable individually by rams 64, 65 inwardly and downwardly within the container 15 to fold down the upper end of the packaging line F. A base-plate 17 transversely slidable in an opening 15b in the container 15 is movable by a ram 50, 51 to bring an opening 18 in the plate 17 into coincidence with the outlet 13 of the chamber 7 so that a further extension of the plate 12 ejects the packaged refuse from the container 15, and an arm 41 is then swung horizontally by a ram 47, so that a block 44, carried by a vertically reciprocable ram at the free end of the arm 41, is located directly above the container opening. Actuation of the ram 43 lowers the block 44 into the container 15 to spread the packaging material evenly around the inside wall of the container.
