Abstract

1366206 Roller conveyers SOVEX Ltd 21 May 1973 [7 July 1972] 31977/72 Heading B8A An arrangement for diverting a load L comprises a spherical member 1 which may be driven in any chosen direction. The member 1, which rests on a spherical bearing 2, may be driven by rollers 5, 7 which are themselves driven by chain-sprocket means. To provide driving pressure between the member 1 and the rollers 5, 7 these rollers and rollers 6, 8 are drawn into contact with member 1 by tensioning means 19, 20 which may be spring units applying a constant force or electromechanical or fluidoperated units which can be selectively operated. By selecting the roller or rollers 5, 7 which are to be driven and by selecting the speed and direction of drive, the load L, when supported on the spherical member 1, may be propelled in any direction. The member 1 may be of synthetic plastics material or of metal and an aperture 4 in a plate 3 through which the member 1 projects may have an anti-friction lining, e.g. of PTFE. All the rollers 5-8 may be undriven, the member 1 then being driven by its supporting bearing. This may be a ball race or a recirculating ball system or a plurality of castors or spheres. Alternatively a fluidized bearing or cushion of air may be used.
