Abstract

1365977 Thiazolodiazepines SANDOZ Ltd 2 Dec 1971 55931/71 Heading C2C Novel compounds of Formula I and salts in which R 1 and R 2 , which may be the same or different, each signifies a hydrogen atom, a fluorine or chlorine atom, a phenyl radical, an alkoxy radical of 1 to 4 carbon atoms or a -CF 3 radical, with the proviso that, where R 1 and R 2 both signify -CF 3 radicals, they are on other than adjacent carbon atoms are prepared by one of the following methods: (a) a compound of Formula III is reacted with a compound of Formula IV; (b) a compound of Formula VI is reacted with a compound of Formula VII M is Li or MgBr; (c) a compound of Formula VIII is reacted with a compound of Formula IX wherein X<SP>1</SP> is Cl or Br; or (d) oxidizing a compound of Formula X optionally followed in all cases by salt formation or liberation of the free base. Pharmaceutical compositions in conventional forms for oral administration having antidepressant activity comprise one of the above compounds and a carrier therefor.
