Abstract

1365924 Carrier bag handle BRITISH VISQUEEN Ltd 16 Feb 1972 [5 March 1971] 6109/71 Heading G [Also in Divisions B5 and E2] A plastics film article, e.g. a carrier bag or tarpaulin, comprises a sheet 1 having a reinforcing strip 2 of plastics or woven or non- woven fabric adhered to the film with a longitudinal aperture or slit 3 through the strip and film whereby the article may be held by an applied force at the top end of the slit parallel to the slit axis, and a plurality of spaced transverse incisions 4 through the strip and film beyond the bottom end of the slit, increasing in length with distance from the slit and bisected by the slit axis. When e.g. a cord applies a load at the top end of the slit, the tendency to tear the film beyond the bottom 6 of the strip is reduced by the opening up of the incisions 4 and the redirecting of the tearing forces transversely. The aperture 3 may form a bag carrying hand-hole.
