Abstract
1365871 Metal air cells JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) LTD 3 Sept 1971 [23 Sept 1970] 45211/70 Heading H1B A metal-air battery in which each individual cell consists of a metal plate, constituting the anode, disposed between a pair of air electrodes is made by providing a synthetic resin strip 31 with a series of rectangular openings 32 and sealing over each of the openings air electrodes such as 18, 19 having terminal tags 18a, 19a. Hinges are formed at intervals along the strip 31 by reducing the thickness of the strip along transverse lines to form portions 33, 34 and permit the strip to be folded and form individual cell electrolyte compartments 21, 22, 23. Thus, cell 21 has air electrodes 12, 13, cell 22 has air electrodes 15, 16 and cell 23 has air electrodes 18, 19, an anode plate (not shown) being positioned between each pair of air electrodes. Air enters the end spaces 24 and intermediate spaces 26, 27 and the ends of the cell compartments are closed by plates 38. The cells are connected in series by connections (not shown) made to the tags 12a &c. and to the metal anode plates.
