Ink-ribbon mechanism; sheet and web guiding arrangements.-In a duplicating-arrangement, the copy is inked by a special ink-ribbon which is arranged parallel to the platen and passes between the sheets or webs, the original being inked by the usual ink-ribbon; or the special ink-ribbnn may be inked on both sides and be employed for inking an original sheet and a transparent copysheet which are arranged at the back and front of the ink-ribbon respectively. For producing two or more copies, two or more special ink-rib. bons are provided. In the arrangement shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the special ink-ribbon 16 is carried by spools 17, 18 rotatably mounted in bearings 20, 21 on the platen-carriage 19, and is guided by slots 13, 15 in an apron 10 which is arranged between the platen-roller 5 and the usual apron 9, and is formed with an opening 12 for the passage of the types. The slots 15 are formed in wings 14 on the apron. The copy 30 and original 31 pass between the platen-roller and the apron 10, and between the aprons 9, 10 respectively. The rear end 11 of the apron 10 is rounded and projects above the apron 9. The original and copy are inked by the usual ink-ribbon 3 and special ink-ribbon respectively. To prevent the copy from being smeared when the platen-roller is rotated for line-spacing, the apron 10 is provided at the ends with rollers 29, Fig. 1, which engage the line-spacing wheel 6 and a ratchet wheel 7 at the other end of the platenroller. Upon rotation of the platen-roller, the teeth of the ratchet-wheels ride over the rollers 29 and cause the front part of the apron 10 to be forced away from the platen-roller and the special ink-ribon to be moved out of contact with the copy. The spool 18 is coupled to a ratchet-wheel 25, Fig. 1, engaged by a pawl on a lever 24 which engages the forked end 23 of an arm 22 on a member 8 of the line-spacing mechanism, the arrangement being such that the lever 24 is operated at each operation of the line-spacing mechanism. The lever 24 may, if preferred, be operated by hand. The spindle of the ratchet-wheel is provided with pins adapted to engage recesses in the hub of the spool 18, and is mounted in a forked member 30 which is pivoted at 26 to the platencarriage and can be turned upwards to uncouple the spool.
