Abstract

1364041 Recording apparatus FURUNO ELECTRIC CO Ltd 16 May 1973 [12 July 1972 30 Dec 1972] 53200/73 Divided out of 1362156 Heading G1J A digitally controlled recorder comprises a clock pulse generator 1 which supplies a train of pulses to drive a pulse motor 2 for moving a recording pen 3, a reversible counter 41 for counting the pulses, a subtraction circuit 42 for subtracting the output of the counter 41 from a digital input from a measuring apparatus 7 and producing an UP or DOWN signal which is supplied to the counter 41 to control the sign of the counting operation, and to a motor control circuit 10-12 to control the drive direction of the pulse motor 2, and means (not shown) for detecting a predetermined reference position of the pen 3 and resetting the reversible counter 41 when the pen reaches that position. The pen 3 forms an electrode for use with a discharge destruction or electrolytic type of recording paper. The paper is moved steadily under the recording station. The pen is moved directly from one plotting position to the next, and may record intermittently, Fig. 1, or continuously, Fig. 2. In Fig. 1, when a record spot is plotted, the signal from a coincidence circuit 6 also resets a counter 4 and turns the Q sides of flip-flops 14, 15 to HIGH to close gates 11, 12, stopping the motor 2. The reversible counter 41 continues to provide an output corresponding to the position of the pen 3. A trigger pulse 43 from a trigger pulse generator 43 causes the subtraction circuit 42 to compare the measurement input with the reversible counter output signal to provide a difference signal to the coincidence circuit 6 and an UP or DOWN signal to flip-flop 14 or 15 respectively, opening gate 11 or 12 to energize the motor 2 to move the pen towards its new plotting position. The motor drive pulses are counted by the counter 4, and when the count output of the latter equals the difference signal from the subtraction circuit 42, the coincidence circuit emits a signal to cause the pen 3 to mark a spot on the paper, and to reset the counter 4, &c. In Fig. 2, the pen position, as indicated by the count output of the reversible counter 41, is continuously compared with the measurement input and the motor 2 driven accordingly. The pen 3 is energized continuously to give a continuous record.
