Abstract

1364031 Abrasive tools L R OLIVER Inc 12 Jan 1973 [14 Jan 1972] 1787/73 Heading B3D An abrading wheel comprises a relatively thin rigid disc-like member having an outer edge 26 containing abrasive 28a, a flat central hub portion 24, and an intermediate annular portion 36, the outer edge and intermediate annular portion having an axially undulating shape constituted by a series of circumferentially related undulations having radially extending spaced crests 32 and transversely extending sides 34 connecting adjacent crests, the sides being generally wedge shaped and disposed at an angle less than 30 degrees to the flat sides of the hub portion, the undulating outer edge having an effective abrading scratch wider than the thickness of the disc-like member. The member is stamped from a metal blank so as to have a central hole 22, the flat hub portion 24 and the undulations which act as vanes to effect cooling of the wheel in use. The outer edge of the wheel is armed with carbide or aluminium oxide grit which may be brazed or bonded to the edge. The crests 32 of the undulations are narrower at the outer edge of the wheel than at their inner end. The peripheral contour of the wheel may be cylindrical, conical, convex or concave, or have a notch formed therein so as to abrade two narrower bands. The wheel edge may be thinned by bevels or a radius on one or both sides thereof, or a groove may extend along the edge. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,319,264.
