Abstract

1363793 Testing fluid loss BRITISH PETROLEUM CO Ltd 29 June 1973 [14 July 1972 25 Oct 1972] 33064/72 and 49126/72 Heading G1S The tendency of a fluid such as a drilling fluid to lose liquid is measured in a cell comprising a detachable base 11 having a drain 13, a filter pad 12, a detachable lid 1 having an inlet 18 for pressurizing fluid, and a stirrer 6 journalled in the lid and driven externally of the cell. In use, the test fluid is placed in the cell, pressure fluid supplied through line 18 and the stirrer rotated, and the amount of liquid collected at 14 in a given time is measured. In an alternative embodiment Fig. 3 (not shown) the fluid is pressurized by means of a carbon dioxide bulb and a further carbon dioxide bulb may be used to pressurize the filtrate. The stirrer 6 may be a bar or a perforated plate, and an electrically heated thermostatically controlled jacket may be provided.
