Abstract
1363342 Tanning mixture BAYER AG 7 July 1972 [8 July 1971] 31889/72 Heading C6C A pulverulent tanning mixture for addition to tanning liquors consists of a pulverulent chrome tanning agent, a chlorination product of a C 8 to C 24 paraffin containing 20 to 50 per cent by weight chlorine, and an adduct of 20 to 75 mols of ethylene oxide to 1 mol of an alkylphenol, aralkylphenol, or fatty alcohol, preferred proportions by weight being 100 parts of the chrome tanning agent, 5 to 25 parts of the chlorination product, and 1 to 15 parts of the adduct. Suitable chrome tanning agents, which may be mixed with acidbinding substances such as sodium bicarbonate, sodium carbonate, dolomite, calcium carbonate or sodium sulphite, are basic chromium-III sulphates and masked basic chromium-III salts. The adduct, which acts as a non-ionic emulsifier, may also contain a small quantity of propylene oxide. Anionic auxiliary emulsifiers such as paraffin-sulphonic acids or their salts may be used additionally. According to examples the tanning mixture may be added to a pickling solution of sodium chloride and sulphuric acid for cow pelts, or it may be used for retanning chrome-tanned calf hides which are subsequently processed into suede, or for retaining chrometanned hides which are subsequently processed into napa leather.
