Abstract

1363173 Coupling reels to shafts INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 9 Sept 1972 41956/72 Heading F2U [Also in Division G5] A magnetic disc 3 is rotatable in a housing in which is mounted an air deflector blade 21 for directing air entrained by the rotating disc between the blade 21 and the disc 3 into a region of tubulence downstream of the blade, to dislodge particles from the disc surface. The blade is radial, and is inclined to the disc surface at an angle which decreases with increase in radial distance. As shown, the apparatus is similar to that described in Specification 1,200,572 and includes a disc cartridge 1 containing the disc 3 and removably located on a hub assembly 14, and a second magnetic disc 12 mounted on the hub assembly 14. Both discs 3, 12 have blades 21 on both sides thereof. The blade 21 above the disc 3 is pivotable, against a spring 23, to permit the disc 3 to be raised in the cartridge 1 to break magnetic clamp 6, 15 or 6, (5), Fig. 1 (not shown). Air impeller blades (16), Fig. 2 (not shown), depend from the hub assembly 14. Air is circulated thereby within an outer housing (17), Fig. 4 (not shown), through a filter (18).
