Abstract

1363169 Matrix displays Y WAKABAYASHI 7 Dec 1972 [8 Dec 1971] 56635/72 Heading G5C A display device comprises a housing 4 containing a plurality of compartments having a triangular shape in a plane parallel to the front wall of the housing; slots in the front wall 11 which define character segments each extending along one side of a triangle; a light source 7 in the corner of each triangle opposite said side; and a reflecting surface 6 adjacent each said side which is sloped to direct light out through the slots. The device includes a slotted Al front wall 11, a rear printed circuit board 14 and a white or coloured diffusing plate 12. All walls of the compartments are reflecting. In another embodiment the lamps are arranged with their axes parallel to the wall 11 to reduce panel thickness; the reflecting surfaces 6 are coloured.
