1362982 Sheet ordering apparatus FARAH MFG CO Inc 28 May 1971 [9 June 1970] 45189/72 Divided out of 1362981 Heading B8R Superimposing sheets.-A fabric workpiece 10 moved by rollers 51 to a first position (as shown in Fig. 3) where it is stopped by a fixed barrier 233 is superimposed on a second workpiece (not shown, but travelling parallel to the first along rollers 51 to a second position where it is stopped by a movable barrier 242), by a pneumatically actuated rake 234, 236 which engages the piece 10 to slide it transversely up an incline 240 to fall upon the second workpiece. The presence of both workpieces is detected by photo-cell devices connected to an electrical control system (Fig. 5, not shown) which controls the operation of the rake to mate the pieces and subsequently lowers barrier 242 and a feed wheel 250 to move the superimposed workpieces towards a sewing machine (301, Fig. 1, not shown). Turning over sheets.-The pieces 10 are supplied from a stack in which the face sides of consecutive pieces lie in opposite directions. A device (Fig. 2) is provided to turn over alternate pieces 10 while they are travelling towards the fixed barrier 233. The device comprises a 'U'-shaped rod or stirrup carried on a bar 209 movable vertically by a pneumatic actuator 210 and a fixed bar 214 provided with a cushioning pad 216. The horizontal portion of the stirrup is initially below the level of the tops of conveyer rollers 201 to permit passage of pieces 10. Photo-cell devices 202, 204 detect the presence of each piece in turn and operate a stepping relay (656) to energize actuator 210 as alternate pieces 10 pass therethrough. The stirrup then rises to lift the leading edge of the alternate piece and trap it against the pad 216 while its trailing edge is swept below by rollers 201 to become the new leading edge of the turned over piece. The stirrup is then lowered to release the trapped edge and the piece 10 proceeds towards barrier 233 with its face side uppermost. The rollers 201 are covered with a suitable elastomeric material such as silicon rubber.
