1362932 Work spindle supports; compensating for temperature fluctuations WERKZEUGMASCHINENKOMBINAT "7 OKTOBER" BERLIN VEB 3 Feb 1972 5047/72 Headings B3T and B3B A work spindle support for a machine tool, e.g. a lathe, comprises a cylindrical portion 4 in which the spindle 5 is mountable, and a carrier portion 2 which is securable to the frame 1 of the machine, the cylindrical portion 4 being rigidly secured to the carrier portion 2 by bolts and wedges 6. A recessed region 3 is provided on the carrier portion 2 which lowers the bending resistance in a direction away from the supporting side of the carrier portion whereby the deformation produced due to temperature gradients set up in the machine parts during the operation of the machine are controlled in one direction only which has the minimum effect on the setting of a cutting tool.
