1362909 Purifying halothane IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 22 Feb 1973 [2 March 1972] 9747/72 Heading C2C Purification of 2,2,2 - trifluoro - 1 - chloro - 1- bromoethane (halothane), containing as impurity at least one compound selected from bromofluoro- and chlorofluorobutenes and bromofluoro-, chlorofluoro and bromochlorofluoro-ethylenes, is effected by bringing the impure halothane in the liquid phase into contact with sulphuric acid or peroxy derivatives thereof, lead tetra-acetate, hydrogen peroxide, chromium trioxide, or a mixture of manganese dioxide and alkali metal hypochlorite, preferably at a temperature in the range from 0‹ C. to the boiling point of the liquid medium.
