1362778 Photo-composing machines LAMSON PARAGON Ltd 6 Oct 1971 [7 Oct 1970] 47588/70 Heading G2A [Also in Division B6] A photo-composing machine includes an adjustable carrier 20 which can support a representation to be reproduced, which representation is imaged on to photo-sensitive material (12) by a lens and mirror system Fig.1 (not shown); and position recording mechanism and position recording material, one mounted on the framework of the machine and the other on the carrier to record the position of the latter. As described, two carriers 20 are movable to and fro (as seen) by endless belts 21 under the control of contacts (62<SP>1</SP>, 62<SP>2</SP>) Fig.5 (not shown). A movable carrier 63 is associated with each carrier 20, the carriers 63 each bearing an opaque sheet on which a plurality of slots of different widths are cut out. The carriers 63 are movable via stepping mechanism controlled by solenoids (33, 34) Fig.3 (not shown), to position a selected slot beneath a slot 20b in a cover member 20a of the associated carrier 20. Roller blind mechanisms 23 on each carrier 20 are rolled up/unrolled as the carrier 20 moves, the mechanisms preventing the projection of more than one line image, or representation. One of the carriers 20 is positioned to provide vertical lines, the other horizontal lines. Alternatively, one of carriers may support lines of text to be imaged. Masks 29 are provided, which masks determine the lengths of the lines to be imaged. They operate under control of contacts (61<SP>1</SP>, 63<SP>2</SP>) and (61<SP>2</SP>, 63<SP>1</SP>) which are associated with vertical and horizontal lines respectively. The position of each carrier 20 is recorded on magnetic tape 26 by a sensing/ read/write/erase head 28. An image of a selected line is projected on to a viewing screen (11) where it is aligned with the corresponding line in an image of a business form (1). The photo-sensitive material (12) is then exposed to the line image.
