Abstract

1362628 Coin testers INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP 7 Sept 1972 [15 Sept 1971] 41544/72 Heading G4V A coin testing device comprises a coin channel, first and second inductive sensors 2, 3 orientated so that the field of one extends axially through a coin in the channel and the field of the other extends through the coin parallel to the coin surface, and circuit means to indicate under control of the sensors whether a coin is acceptable or not. In the embodiment shown the sensors are spaced apart along the coin channel and are selectively coupled to an oscillator 9 and evaluating unit 10 by a changeover switch 8. Initially sensor 2 is so connected and if the coin is found acceptable at this position unit 10 produces an output to set monostable 12 via changeover switch 11. Switches 8, 11 are then changed over either by means of contacts in the coin channel or the output of the monostable 12, and if the coin is again found acceptable the output of unit 10 applied to AND gate together with the output of monostable 12 produce a signal 14 indicating the acceptability of the coin. The evaluating unit 10 may examine the change in frequency or reduction in amplitude of the oscillations. The sensors 2, 3 may be arranged to test a coin simultaneously, in which case they may be connected to respective oscillators, evaluating units and a common AND gate (Fig. 3, not shown).
