1361542 Monoazo benzthiazole basic dyes YORKSHIRE CHEMICALS Ltd 5 Jan 1973 [7 Jan 1972] 731/72 Heading C4P The invention comprises water-soluble basic dyes where R<SP>1</SP> is H, alkyl, aryl or aralkyl, R<SP>2</SP> is alkylene, R<SP>3</SP> is H or alkyl, R<SP>4</SP> is alkyl, R<SP>5</SP> is alkyl, aryl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl or amino, and R<SP>3</SP>, R<SP>4</SP> and R<SP>5</SP> together with the nitrogen may represent a heterocyclic ring; each R<SP>6</SP> may be F, Cl, Br, or I; X is a water-solubilizing anion, and n is 1 to 4, with the proviso that when n is 1 or 2 and R<SP>6</SP> represents Cl and/or Br in the 4 and/or 6 position in the benzthiazole, then either R<SP>5</SP> represents an amino group or a cycloalkyl group or R<SP>3</SP>, R<SP>4</SP> and R<SP>5</SP> together with the nitrogen represent a heterocyclic ring; the nucleus B and the substituent groups may be further substituted, but not by carboxylic or sulphonic acid groups. The alkylene and alkyl groups may contain 1 to 4 C atoms. Exemplified anions (X-) are Cl<SP>1</SP>, Br<SP>1</SP>, ZnCl<SP>1</SP> 3 , SO<SP>11</SP> 4 , CH 3 COO<SP>1</SP>, CH 3 SO<SP>1</SP> 4 and PO<SP>111</SP> 4 . The dyes are prepared by coupling equal moles of The dyes are used to colour Tannin-mordanted cotton, cellulose acetate, and modified polyamide or polyester fibres, or polyacrylonitrile or its copolymers. Orange to violet shades are produced. On polyacrylonitrile fibres reddish shades of very good fastness are produced.
