Abstract

1361472 Flexible material dispenser WINDINGS Inc 29 Oct 1971 50378/71 Heading A4G [Also in Division B8] A package 2 of flexible material comprises a plurality of layers each formed of a plurality of figure-8 winds with cross-overs progressing around the package, the package having a radial opening 4 and an axial opening 6 into which the radial opening 4 extends, the free inner end 8 of the material being led out through the opening 4; the package also including a pair of straightsided inwardly tapering members 10 extending into the axial opening 6 from each end and terminating adjacent the opening 4, the inner ends of the members 10 being in resilient contact with one another or closely spaced apart from one another whereby loops of material withdrawn from the package are guided for payout through the opening 4. The members 10 guide the figure- 8 winds towards the opening 4 and prevent snarling thereof. The tapering members 10 are preferably integrally formed with the end walls 16 of an enclosing container, which may be a shipping container. The tapering members 10 are preferably cones which can be of the same angle or not, right cones or not, and are preferably prevented from touching. The cones can be electrically conductive to operate an alarm if they touch, one of the cones being adjustable inwards or outwards of the axial opening 6. In a further embodiment the external surface of the cone is provided with grooves extending longitudinally. One of the cones may have an open end in which is resiliently accommodated a ball which touches the tip of the other cone and is pushed aside by the material passing out of the opening 4. In a further embodiment, the tapering members are substantially flat and extend in a radial plane of the package. It is preferred that several packages are arranged in rows and columns on a dolly and the tapering members are made integral with enclosing walls of a container, the outer and inner ends of adjacent packages being joined for continuous withdrawal of the flexible material. In a further embodiment a hollow stabilizing cone is positioned in each end of the package, the tapering members passing therethrough.
