Abstract

1361248 Facsimile recorder FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 21 Dec 1971 [23 Dec 1970] 59513/71 Heading H4F [Also in Division H1] A cathode-ray tube for recording on heatsensitive paper has a faceplate 2<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 2, carrying a plurality of conductive strips 5 across which the beam is scanned, each strip being connected to a common external terminal 4 via respective external resistive portions 8 which can develop heat and which are placed in contact with the heat-sensitive paper (not shown). In manufacture, the glass plate 2<SP>1</SP> may be coated with SiO 2 by heating it to 200-400‹ C. and passing air to it over anhydrous SiCl 4 to form a non- conductive coating of SiO 2 which is rendered conductive by heating with a reducing gas flame. A conductive coating of gold, copper, silver or aluminium is evaporated on to the resistive coating of SiO 2 and lines of the required width and pitch (e.g. 5 lines/mm.) are scribed in the coating; finally the conductive coating is removed over the edge 3 to expose the resistive portions 8. The common terminal 4 may be earthed either directly or through an adjustable resistance, e.g. of 9.9Î10<SP>7</SP> ohms. Alternative materials for the resistive coating are SnO 2 , In 2 O 3 , CdO, and TiO 2 .
