Abstract

1361209 Desizing bleaching and dyeing textile materials IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 15 Sept 1971 [29 Sept 1970 17 Dec 1970] 38742/71 and 60083/70 Divided out of 1335984 Headings D1B and DIP Textile materials are desized, dyed and optionally bleached by a process which comprises applying to the textile material an emulsion of an aqueous desizing agent in a hydrocarbon or halogenated hydrocarbon solvent, which emulsion also contains a dye or pigment. Specified solvents are white spirit, kerosene, trichlorethylene, perchlorethylene, 1, 1, 2-trichloro-1, 2, 2-trifluoroethane and 1, 1, 1-trichloroethane. Specified desizing agents are enzyme desizing agents e.g. amylase and oxidising desizing agents e.g. H 2 O 2 , sodium chlorite, sodium hypochlorite and peracetic acid. Where the desizing agent is H 2 O 2 the process may be carried out in the presence of a base as described in Specification No. 1335984. Specified dyes and pigments are reactive cellulose dyes, solubilised leuco vat ester dyes, disperse dyes and direct dyes. Where leuco vat ester dyes are used the sodium nitrite and acid used to develop the dye may be incorporated in the emulsion or applied to the textile subsequent to application of the emulsion. Emulsifying agents include nonyl phenol/ethylene oxide condensate, polyoxyethylene fatty glyceride, sorbitan mono-oleate, isopropylamine dodecyl benzene sulphonate, coconut oil diethanolamide, sodium di (methylamyl) sulphosuccinate and salts of sulphated fatty alcohols. Cotton, polyester and regenerated cellulosic materials may be treated. The dye may be dissolved in the aqueous or organic phase of the emulsion or in the form of a suspension. Where fabrics are made of a blend of fibres the dye may be evenly distributed by heating in dry air.
