Abstract
1361184 Converting, control of D.C. motors MOLINS Ltd 28 Sept 1971 [29 Sept 1970] 46301/70 Headings H2F and H2J [Also in Division H3] A switching circuit for applying a reversible direct voltage to an inductive load, e.g. the field windings of shunt motor, from an A.C. supply comprises: a rectifier circuit 10; a bridge of four controlled switches, SCR's 12A, 12B through which the direct voltage is applied to the load in either direction; and means, e.g. triac 14, in the A.C. part of the circuit for limiting the rise in current when the direction of current through the load is reversed. If initially SCR's 12A are conductive and it is desired to change the direction of the voltage by firing SCR's 12B, then triac 14 is extinguished long enough for the currents through SCR's 12A to decay sufficiently for them to become extinguished. Pulses are then applied to the coils B to refire triac 14, and fire SCR's 12B. In an alternative arrangement the trial is replaced by a filament lamp. When it is desired to change the direction of the voltage SCR's 12B are fired and the lamp limits the supply current during the time that all four SCR's are on, until the current decays through SCR's 12A sufficiently for them to extinguish.
