Abstract
1360398 Separating oil-water emulsions DOW CORNING Ltd 28 Sept 1971 [2 Oct 1970] 46993/70 Heading C5E The separation of emulsions of oil and water (e.g. crude oil, lubricating oil or cutting oil) is promoted by the addition of an organic solvent-soluble organosiloxane having 2 to 2000 silicon atoms per molecule and having, attached to at least one silicon atom thereof, an organic group having hydrophilic properties. The organic group can be a polyalkylene oxide group, e.g. in a dimethylsiloxane-polyalkylene oxide block copolymer, or can contain a hydrophilic substituent, e.g. amine oxide or a quaternary ammonium sulphonate, sulphate, carboxyl, alkylolamide, betaine, amide, or phosphonate, in an otherwise non-hydrophilic group. 0À5-10,000 p.p.m. by weight of the organosiloxane can be used.
