Abstract

1360339 Sulphamate-modified aminoplast resins CASSELLA FARBWERKE MAINKUR AG 24 Aug 1972 [25 Aug 1971] 39421/72 Heading C3R Aminoplast resins of unlimited water dilutability are prepared by condensing at pH 6À5-12 urea, thiourea, dicyandiamide, guanidine or melamine or any mixture of these with 0À2-4 mols. of formaldehyde and 0À01-2 mols. of a sulphamate per mol. of amine group in the amide, until a 50% solids aqueous solution of the product is a gel at room temperature. Suitable sulphamates are those of the alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, zinc, aluminium, lead, iron, trialkylamines, tetra-alkyl alkylene diamines, trialkylolamines, quinuclidine, N-alkyl morpholines and N-alkyl piperidines. In the examples urea or melamine is condensed with formalin and a 40% aqueous solution of sodium sulphamate made alkaline or neutral with NaOH or KOH, in proportions melamine : formaldehyde : sulphamate of 1 : 3-4 : 0À3-2 and urea : formaldehyde : sulphamate of 1 : 2À2 : 0À015 approx. Uses.-Paper finishing; additives for concrete, cement and gypsum.
