Abstract

1360098 Pneumatic tyres GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO 30 Sept 1971 [25 Nov 1970] 45600/71 Heading B7C A pneumatic tyre, with a carcass in which the cord-angle is between 70 and 90 degrees, has a light coloured portion, e.g. an annular band or letters or designs, in a sidewall area located immediately adjacent a black sidewall area, the light coloured portion containing at least 50 parts by weight of a halobutyl rubber per 100 parts by weight of the total elastomeric polymer within the portion, and the black sidewall area being made crack resistant by the inculsion therein of an amine age resistor capable of migration, the halobutyl rubber preventing discoloration and staining of the light coloured portion by the amine age resistor. The halobutyl rubber may be chlorobutyl or bromobutyl rubber and the remainder of the elastomeric polymer in the light coloured portion may be a natural or synthetic elastomer, e.g. a synthetic diene rubber. Light colour pigment fillers which may be used in the light coloured portion are titanium dioxide, pyrazolone red, phthalocyanine blue and zinc oxide. The amine age resistor may be diphenyl amine, naphthyl amine, alkyl amine, para-phenylenediamine, carbonylamine condensation product, or quinoline. Specific examples of rubber stocks for the light coloured portion and black sidewall area are given in the Specification.
