Abstract

1360070 Tyre building apparatus UNIROYAL Inc 8 July 1971 [13 Aug 1970] 32158/71 Heading B7C Tyre building apparatus comprises a frame 10 on which a tread stock let-off mechanism 30 is mounted, the tread 33 in strip form being led from a roll 32 over rollers 44, 46 to a conveyer 50, which can move transversely with respect to the frame and then to a rotatably mounted building drum 130 on to the periphery of which it is applied and stitched by means 70 in an overlapping spiral pattern, Fig. 1, to form the tread. The transverse movement of the conveyer so that the strip of tread stock covers the whole of the width of the building drum consists of a motor 142 which drives a screw 150 on which a nut 151 is mounted. The nut has at its top end a roller 154 which engages in a slot 155a of a bar 155 connected with the conveyer by a slotted member 156. Rotation of the screw will cause the nut to move along it and hence swing the bar about pivot pin 155b, and transversely move the conveyer. Adjustment of the end portion of the bar is made by means 160 before the apparatus is operated. The tread stock let-off mechanism 30 comprises a shaft 34 driven by a motor 42 and on which the tread stock roll is mounted and a driven shaft 39 on which a liner take-up roll is mounted. Photo-electric switches 47, 48 ensure a correct rate of feed and give warning of an empty roll of stock. If a "valley" tread is required hump strips must be applied to the building drum before the tread stock. The hump strip stock is carried on two rolls carried by a rotatably driven shaft 94. Take-up rolls for liner material are mounted on a similar shaft 101. The hump stock is supplied to the drum over rollers 23, 24 and a fixed conveyer 110. The stitching means 70 consists of a bladder 71 adapted to contact the drum and movable between operable and non-operable positions by rams 75 and 73 mounted on the conveyer 50. The Specification discloses an electrical and pneumatic control circuit for operation of the apparatus.
