Abstract

1359319 Wells &c ROCKWELL INTERNATIONAL CORP 23 Sept 1971 [30 Sept 1970] 44455/71 Heading E1F An underwater well is completed by installing a conductor casing with a riser 413 extending from the conductor casing to the drilling platform, installing casings 440, 450, 460 having risers (the riser for the casing 460 not being shown) attaching a blowout preventer to the top of the riser 453 of casing 450, removing any riser within the riser 453, attaching a tubing head 470 to the innermost casing 460, suspending and latching a tubing hanger 500 supporting tubing 501, 502 from the tubing head, and removing the blowout preventer and the remaining risers except the riser 413. The riser 413 is cut adjacent the mudline, a wellhead 455 is connected by a casing joint 456 to the casing 450, a guide base 600 attached to the well head is welded to the riser 413, and a christmas tree 620 is connected to the tubing and the wellhead. After the tubing head is installed a device 480 for orienting the tubing hanger is connected to the tubing head, the device itself being oriented by engaging lugs 476 in the tubing head. Part of the device is removable and may be replaced in its original position. The tubing hanger has latches 565 which are operated by the weight of the tubing to engage the head. In apparatus described with reference to Figs. 1-10 (not shown) and which is disclosed in Specification 1274694 there is no tubing head, the tubing hanger seating directly on the hanger for the innermost casing.
