Abstract
1359296 Lead carboxylate and phenate complexes INTERSTAB Ltd 11 Aug 1971 [29 Aug 1970] 41700/70 Heading C2C [Also in Division C3] Compounds used in stabilizing compositions for vinyl chloride polymers comprise the reaction product of a basic lead carboxylate or phenate and a polyhydric alcohol and have the formula wherein R is an alkylene radical, dialkylene glycol residue, or hydroxy alkylene radical and -OX is a carboxylate or phenate radical. The compounds are prepared by heating together the lead salt and the alcohol until a clear solution is obtained and then distilling off volatile products or by allowing a carboxylic acid, the alcohol and litharge to react together and again distilling off volatile products. Compounds prepared by reacting lead acetate trihydrate or litharge and glacial acetic acid with ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, propylene glycol, dipropylene glycol, 1,4-butane diol, neopentylene glycol, glycerol, 1,1,1-trimethylol propane and pentaerythritol are described.
