Abstract

1359257 Polyureas BRITISH PETROLEUM CO Ltd 26 April 1972 [29 April 1971] 19330/72 Heading C3R [Also in Division C5] A complex mixture of isocyanate-crosslinked polyureas is made by reacting, in a lubricating oil, (1) a monomine (e.g. C 12 -C 24 alkylamine), (2) a diamine (e.g. C 2 -C 12 aliphatic diamine), and (3) an aromatic diisocyanate in a molar ratio such that a stoichiometric excess of isocyanate over amine groups is present. Suitable di-isocyanates are phenylene-, toluylene-, bitoluylene-, naphthylene- and dinaphthylenedi-isocyanates. The base oil may be paraffinic or napthhenic mineral oil, or a synthetic oil, e.g. polyesters, polyacryl ethers or polyoxyalkylene glycols. The reaction products thicken the base oil to form a grease (Division C5).
