Abstract

1359203 Apparatus for treating webs AGFAGEVAERT AG 25 June 1971 [26 June 1970] 29891/71 Heading DIL [Also in Division G2] In apparatus for processing photographic film strip, the strip is unwound by drive rollers 38, 18 from a reel 5 through a series of processing units 13, each unit including alternate application and scraping rollers 9, 10 rotating in opposite senses to maintain greater control of the tension in the strip, there being pressure rollers 11 between each roller to keep the strip in contact with the rollers 9, 10. The processing units are arranged one above another in a cabinet e.g. 1, deflecting rollers 8, 14, 15 being provided to direct the strip from unit to unit. Processing liquid for the film strip is supplied to tanks (23) Fig. 3 (not shown) beneath the rollers the liquid being subsequently removed by scraper rollers 10 to drain away through tank (23) holes (24) and channels (25, 33). The temperature of liquid in tank 23 is controlled by heat exchange with moist air passing through a channel (36) below the tank, Fig. 4 (not shown). To achieve continuous operation, film strips may be attached to one another; a leader strip may be fed through the apparatus before it is to lie idle to achieve ease of start up. Endless chains provided with openings dogs may be used for threading strip through the apparatus, the dogs gripping the film during passage to the drive means.
