Abstract

1359051 Resist printing process FARBWERKE HOECHST AG 17 Sept 1971 [19 Sept 1970 19 July 1971 11 Sept 1971] 43446/71 Heading D1B A resist printing process comprises printing a material e.g. cellulose with a resisting agent and then with an ingrain type phthalocyanine dye, wherein is used a resisting agent of formula: in which A represents a phenyl or naphthyl ring that may be substituted by one or more of the same or different substituents selected from carboxylic acid, sulphonic acid, carboxylate and sulphonate groups; B is H or a group -CH 2 -SO 3 M where M is H or alkali metal; R is H, halogen, or a straight or branched chain alkyl that is optionally substituted by one or more water solubilising groups; R' and R" independently represent H, or a straight or branched chain alkyl or aralkyl group which is optionally substituted by one or more water solubilising groups; Q is OH, R, B, CO 2 H, SO 3 H or a carboxylate or sulphonate group; each x, y and z is 0, 1, 2 or 3 and w is an integer from 1-6. White or colour resists may be produced by preprinting the resisting agent on a fabric, optionally in conjunction with a dye that is not an ingrain type, e.g. a reactive or pigment dye and either subjecting the preprints to an intermediate dyeing or directly cover-printing or slop-padding in a wet process using a second printing dye or padding liquor comprising a dye precondensate for an ingrain type phthalocyanine dye, followed by development and fixing of the print. The resisting agent is advantageously mixed with a solvent of formula: where n is an integer from 1-8; and m is an integer from 1-4 in an amount of 30-100g per kg of preprinting paste.
