Abstract

1358968 Holography SANYO ELECTRIC CO Ltd 29 March 1972 [31 March 1971; 11 Nov 1971 (3)] 14850/72 Heading G2J [Also in Division G4] A card carrying a plurality of digital numeric or alphabetic markings in the form of holograms has each marking successively decoded in a reader. A card such as a credit or identity card has several adjacent hologram records Fig. 1, (not shown) which preferably represent a 6 digit number. Each recording may be a phase hologram printed from a nickel master Fig. 4 , (not shown) in the form of a roll or a type face or may be fringes on a film. The card is inserted in a reader 10 and either manually pressed into the reader or transported mechanically. The leading edge of the card operates a detector 13 resetting counters 22, 23 and each hologram is read and an image of the original data Fig. 3 (not shown) is formed on a photo-electric detector 14. Signals from the detector are fed to an address in a store 28 determined by counter 22 incremented for each digit. When a detector 15 is operated the final digit should be opposite a read window 52 in the reader and counter 22 should read 6 for a 6 digit number. AND gate 41 detects the number and the signal from the detector and operates a repeat indicator if a fault occurs. A parity detector 35 can also operate the repeat indicator. A code number from a keyboard 30 is entered into a store 29 under the control of a counter 23 and the numbers are compared to check the validity of the card. The number from the keyboard is displayed on indicator 31.
