Abstract

1358871 Function generators PYE Ltd 25 June 1971 30024/71 Heading G4G [Also in Division G1] A low generator comprises amplifier 55 with feedback resistor 56 and input paths 57-61 of which paths 57-60 are connected to an input voltage V IN , variable over the range 0 to + 5 v. Input path 61 connects to a -5v. reference voltage via a preset potentiometer so that current I 5 is constant as shown at 76. Input 57 includes resistor 62 so current I 1 flowing to virtual earth input of amplifier 55 varies linearly with V IN as shown at 63. Current I 2 flowing in path 58 increases linearly with V IN until transistor 66 conducts and is thereafter constant as shown at 69. Path 59 acts similarly to path 58 but includes an inverting amplifier 70 so current I 3 is of opposite polarity to I 1 , I 2 and is as shown at 72. Path 60 includes a series switching circuit and no current flows in this path until V IN reaches a level, determined by potentiometer 73, at which the switching circuit conducts when current I 4 commences to flow and increases linearly with V IN as shown at 74. Total current I TOT at amplifier 55 input is the sum of currents I 1 to I 5 and varies as shown at 77. The output voltage of the amplifier is always such as to provide a current through resistor 56 equal and opposite to I TOT so that amplifier output voltage follows the curve 77 but is of opposite sign.
