Abstract
1358857 Valves; fluid pressure brakes COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd 7 July 1972 [30 July 1971] 35909/71 Headings F2V and F2F A fluid-pressure governor has a spring-loaded valve member 34 in a bore of a shaft 20 moved off its seat, when a housing 8 rotates about the shaft above a predetermined speed, so as to vent a fluid pressure inlet 28 via apertures in a housing end plate 10. Rotation of the housing causes balls 60 to move radially outwards under centrifugal force to cause a rotor 46 and an actuating member 40 to move axially against springs (64) and move the ball 34 off its seat. The fluid flow path is via an aperture 56 in rotor 46 and short cylinder 12 on the end plate so that the fluid pressure venting acts on a portion 48 of the rotor 46 which for a short time slides as a piston in the cylinder 12 to urge it in a direction to unseat the ball 34. The governor 1 is used in a brake circuit of a mine car having spring-applied fluid pressure-released brakes 69. When line 70 is disconnected from a fluid pressure reservoir on decoupling the mine car from a haulage vehicle and it is required to move the mine car, manually-operated pump 94 is actuated to release the brakes 69, close off line 70 with valve 72 and move piston 88 to pivot the housing of the governor 1 into contact with a wheel 108. Thus at a predetermined speed the brakes 69 are applied. When the reservoir is reconnected to line 70 pilot valve 106 vents the cylinder 84 to allow the housing of the governor to pivot away from the wheel.
