Abstract
1358207 Stabilizing ships TSENTRALNY NAUCHNO - ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUT IM AKADEMIKA A N KRYLOVA 8 Feb 1972 5709/72 Heading B7M Compartments 6 located at the sides of a tank 1 communicate at their bottoms with the main body of liquid in the tank so that air 10 is trapped in the upper parts of the compartments. The air spaces communicate through passages 11 so that movement of the free liquid surfaces on either side of the tank is synchronized. As illustrated, the compartments are open bottomed; but in a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the compartments are located on the outer sides of the ship's longitudinal bulkheads which are apertured to provide liquid communication with the compartments. In another modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), there is only one compartment on each side of the tank. The compartments in this modification have a common top wall formed by a horizontal tank partition whose central region is apertured for the flow of liquid within the tank. The channel connecting the air spaces is located above the partition and communicates with apertures in the tops of the compartments.
