Abstract

1358006 Retractive switches GENERAL MOTORS CORP 29 June 1972 [16 Sept 1971] 30403/72 Heading H1N An electric switch comprises a pair of contact members 30, 32 laminated to respective flexible insulating sheets 22, 24 bosses 34, 36 being stamped in the sheets 22, 24 and their contact members 30, 32, the bosses 34, 36 being accommodated in apertures 44 of a resilient spacer 42 interposed between the contact members 30, 32. The contact members 30, 32 have a plurality of times 34, 36 respectively. The sheets 22, 24 are laminated to their contacts 30, 32 by use of a heated die which initially severs a contact member 30, 32 from a copper foil and then bonds the contact and remaining foil member to its insulating polyester sheet 22, 24. The excess foil is then peeled away from the insulating sheet and the contact member securely bonded to the sheet by further heating prior to the formation of the bosses by a stamping die. The spacer 42 which is made of polyurethane foam and may have individual apertures for the bosses 34, 36 is coated with adhesive to secure it to the contact carrying sheets 22, 24. Projecting arms 38, 40 of the contact members 30, 32 are secured to supply leads 58, 60 by connectors 54, 56. The lower side of lower sheet 24 has an adhesive portion by which it is attached to a seat prior to being covered by the seat covering. Thus the switch may be used to indicate occupation of a seat.
