Abstract

1357826 Dish-washing machine detergent formulations DEUTSCHE GOLDUND SILBER-SCHEIDEANSTALT 13 Jan 1972 [14 Jan 1971] 1656/72 Heading C5D A detergent composition for use in a dishwashing machine comprises (A) 90 to 5% by wt. of a water-soluble alkali metal silicate and (B) 5 to 90% by wt. of a poly(hydroxy carboxylic acid) comprising predominantly units corresponding to Formulµ I, II and/or III or and optionally, in addition, smaller numbers of units corresponding to Formula IV, and/or V and/or VI in which R and R<SP>1</SP> may be the same or different, and each represents C 1 -C 6 alkyl or H, and in addition R<SP>1</SP> may be halogen and wherein units of Formulµ I, IV and V are present in the form of free acids or in the form of watersoluble salts, the units of Formulµ I to VI being arranged in any order, and the average frequency of these units in the polymer corresponding to a ratio of carboxyl or carboxylate groups to OH groups of from 1À1 to 16 and the degree of polymerization of the poly(hydroxycarboxylic acid) amounting to from 3 to 5000; the ratio of alkali metal silicate to poly(hydroxy carboxylic) acid being from 1 : 0À5 to 18. Optional additions are (C ) 0-5% wt. of alkali metal hydroxide or alkali metal carbonate, (D) 0-10% of a lowfoaming non-ionic surfactant which is a C 12 to C 18 fatty alcohol or alkyl phenol condensate with ethylene oxide or an ethylene oxide adduct with polypropylene glycols of 900 to 4000 molecular wt., (E) 0 to 10% wt. of an organic or inorganic chlorine bleach, (F) 0 to 5% wt. of enzymes, (G) 0-10% wt. of hydroxypolycarboxylic acid, aminopolycarboxylic acid, aminopolyphosphonic acid or hydroxy alkane phosphonic acid sequestering agent or a watersoluble salt thereof. The compositions may be solids or liquid mixtures. The poly(hydroxycarboxylic acid) compounds may be prepared by the methods of Specification 1,296,413 (see Division C3).
