Abstract

1455823 Dishwashing compositions UNILEVER Ltd 20 Nov 1973 [22 Nov 1972] 54109/72 Heading C5D An unbuilt composition having a pH in the range 4-8À5, and suitable for hand dishwashing, comprises (a) 10-50% by weight of a mixture of synthetic organic detergents, 4-40% by weight of which, based on the total composition, is a calcium/magnesium sensitive anionic synthetic detergent (which precipitates in salt form in presence of hard water under specified conditions) and at least 1% by weight of which, based on the total composition, is an anionic or non-ionic surface active solubilizer for the anti-resoiling agent and (b) 0À015-0À45% by weight of an anti-resoiling agent which is an organic phosphonate chosen from the following acids and their salts: (1) wherein x+y+z=8-16 and x, y or z may be zero; (2) wherein p+q=8-14 and p or q may be zero; (3a) wherein n+d+e+f=8-14 and n, d, e or f may be zero; (3b) wherein r+s+t=8-14 and r, s or t may be zero; (4) wherein a+b+c=10-17 and a, b and c may be zero. The pH of the composition may be adjusted to the required value by the addition of tris-(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane, triethanolamine, phosphoric acid, o-aminobenzoic acid or 2,4,6-trichlorophenol or by the addition of a weak organic acid (e.g. one or more of malonic, succinic, glutaric, citric, tartaric, lactic, phthalic, adipic, fumaric and benzoic acids or partial salts thereof) followed by NaOH, ammonia or a substituted ammonia derivative. The calcium/magnesium sensitive anionic synthetic detergent may be an alkali metal, ammonium or substituted ammonium salt of a C 11 -C 18 alkyl α or random alkene sulphonate; random C 13 -C 18 alkyl sulphonate; C 10 -C 15 alkyl benzene sulphonate; C 11 -C 15 primary or secondary alcohol sulphate; or mixtures of these. The solubilizer may be an ethylene oxide condensation product of a primary or secondary aliphatic alcohol or alkyl phenol; or an alkali metal, ammonium or substituted ammonium salt of (i) hydroxyalkane sulphonates and disulphonates derived from sulphonation of C 11 - C 18 random and alpha-olefins or (ii) sulphated ethylene oxide condensation products of C 11 - C 15 primary or secondary alcohols. The composition may contain perfume, colourants, fruit juices. Where the composition is in powder or paste form, fillers (e.g. sodium sulphate or polyethylene gylcol) may be included. Where the composition is in liquid form, water, hydrotropes, viscosity modifiers and opacifiers may be included, gelatin and ethanol being exemplified. The composition in paste form may be incorporated within fleeces, wools or sponges of one or more of nylon, steel, copper or polyurethane.
