1357667 Recording and playback MOTOROLA Inc 12 June 1972 [1 July 1971 5 Aug 1971] 27294/72 Heading G5R An ejection system provides automatic discharge of a cassette or cartridge from a player when the power supply fails. In the arrangement shown, an overcentre spring 28 snaps from the Fig. 1 position to that of Figs. 3/4 when a cassette 18 is pushed partway into a player 10, and a slide 22 thereupon moves along a channel 24 and pulls the cassette right inside the player. A button 38 may then be pushed to cause an arm 35 to move and so lower a carriage 20 and the cassette 18 to an operating position, as in Fig. 4a (not shown). During this movement, an arm 42 is rotated against the bias of a spring 50 to the Fig. 4 position, a tab 59 on an arm 60 engages a tab 56 to latch the arm 42 in a cocked position, and an overcentre spring 86 snaps across and causes an armature 84 on an arm 66 to be brought into engagement with an energized solenoid 70. If the power supply fails, solenoid 70 becomes de-energized, arm 66 rotates back and spring 86 snaps back, arm 42 becomes unlatched and rotates back to the Fig. 3 position, a tab 45 forces the arm 35 to move back and thus raise the carriage 20 and cassette 18, and an arm 90, which was moved from the Fig. 3 to the Fig. 4 position when button 38 was pushed, is then effective to snap spring 28 back and so move slide 22 and cassette 18 back to the Fig. 1 position. A further cassette ejection system wherein all the components are mounted on a self contained framework is designed to operate with existing players not having ejection facilities, as described with reference to Figs. 5-8 (not shown).
