Abstract

1357607 Filtering water COMPAGNIE GLOBALE D'INDUSTRIE SA 27 Aug 1971 [10 Sept 1970] 40237/71 Heading B1D [Also in Division Cl] A method of making drinking water from impure water to which has been added an excessive amount of chlorine to kill the germs and bacteria therein, comprises filtering and dechlorinating the chlorinated water by passing it through a membrane made from activated carbon and a fibrous material (e.g. cellulose). A filter auxiliary material (e.g. talc, asbestos fibres, kieselguhr) may be aded to the impure water and forms a filter layer above the membrane as filtration proceeds. A suitable filter pack comprises containers 1, 2, a lid 13 which can hold a number of carbon membranes, a bottle 11 containing chlorine-containing salt and filter auxiliary material, and a spoon 12. Container 2 may be transparent. In use container 1 is positioned above container 2 and a carbon membrane is supported on ribs 6 on the base of container 1, which base has an outlet 8 leading to container 2.
