Abstract
1357360 Anchor bolts; screw sockets TORQUE TENSION Ltd 30 Jan 1973 [7 Dec 1971] 56827/71 Heading F2H To achor a bolt in rock 5, a rigid socket 1 having a blind internally-threaded bore is attached to an externally-threaded bar 2 which extends through an annular washer 4 temporarily fastened, e.g. by swaging, to the bar, the bar being screwed into the socket until the washer, of greater diameter than the socket, abuts the end face of the socket. A hardenable fixing material 7 is charged into a hole in the rock 5 and the bar and socket are rotated together into the bore to mix the fixing material. When the fixing material sets and hardens, the socket can no longer rotate and so continued rotation of the bar causes the bar to unfasten from the washer, the bar then being screwed further into the socket to tension it. The outer end of the bar 2 may have a head 3 or be threaded for engagement with a nut. The socket 1 may have external ribs and is preferably made of steel, plastics or wood. The fixing material used is preferably a composition of resin/ hardener housed separately in a breakable capsule, but may alternatively be concrete, cement or a resin/water mix.
